Description
The screen walls, gates, railings, and lamps enclosing the Law Courts complex were built around 1874 and designed by G.E. Street. Constructed from Portland stone and wrought and cast iron, they showcase a 13th-century Gothic style with a creative use of detail that reflects Street's craftsmanship. The design features sections of arcaded and gabled screen walls and gateways that complement the building's projections and recessions. These elements are connected by ornate Gothic ironwork, which serves as railings between tall piers along the eastern and northern boundaries. The quality of this work is comparable to that of Pugin and is a vital part of the overall design.
