Description

This is a terrace of houses built in the early to mid-19th century as part of the original layout of Bayswater, specifically along what was known as Grand Junction Road (later Sussex Gardens). The terrace is constructed of brick, with a stucco finish and channelled detail to the ground floor. It comprises numbers 194 to 204, originally listed separately as number 194 (Hotel Edward) and numbers 196 to 204.

The terrace is four storeys high, with a basement and an attic to number 194. The bays vary; number 194 has four bays, while the others have two. Numbers 196 to 204 feature bowed frontages. Projecting Tuscan porches are present, some incorporating metopes and triglyphs. The windows are predominantly tripartite sashes. Number 194 has a mixture of casement and fixed windows. A first-floor iron balcony is present at number 194, with casement windows set within architraves, topped with pediments resting on consoles. Other windows on the first floor have hoods over the consoles. Above the first floor, the windows are sashes with glazing bars, set within architraves. A sill band runs across the third floor. Number 194 has additional fixed windows above. A dentil cornice tops the building. The terrace is fronted by iron basement railings.
