Description

A terrace of houses at 5-39 Inverness Terrace, dating to around 1860. The terrace is constructed of stucco, with obscured roofs. It is nearly symmetrical in design, comprising four storeys, an attic, and a basement. The majority of the houses are two windows wide, with seven houses in the central section being three bays wide, breaking forward with rusticated quoins, as do the two end houses (the left-hand pavilion being a reconstruction). The ground floor features channelling. Projecting Doric porches are present, with a triglyph frieze extending across the entire ground floor. A stucco balustraded balcony runs along the first floor. The windows are square-headed, with the central houses featuring Ionic columns between windows and stucco architraves. Cornices are present above the first and second floor windows. The windows are primarily sash windows, with some slate glass. First-floor windows are French casements. A rich dentil cornice tops the third floor, with a subsidiary cornice above the attic. Cast iron area railings are present.
