Description

This is a terrace of houses built in the early 19th century as part of the planned layout of Chester Square. The houses are made of stucco and have low slate mansards. Numbers 46 to 63, along with number 39 Eccleston Street, form the terrace. The end houses and numbers 54, 57, and set forward slightly. Numbers 55 and 56 feature a prominent giant pilaster order that runs from the first to the second floor. The ground floor has channelling. Each house has a projecting Doric porch with square piers, and studded, panelled front doors. A continuous lotus-pattern balcony runs along the front of the first floor. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars, although the first floor has French casements. A stucco cornice sits above the second floor, with a smaller subsidiary cornice leading to the attic. Cast iron area railings are also present.
