Description
No. 19 Buckingham Street is a terrace town house that was rebuilt in 1794 after a fire, combining two houses into one. The building is constructed of stock brick and features a slate roof. It stands four storeys tall with a basement and has eight windows arranged in a rhythm of 2:4:2, with the wings slightly advanced. The central entrance is set in a wide semicircular arched opening, featuring a panelled door flanked by sidelights and topped with an overall fanlight. On either side of the entrance are recessed sash windows with similar arches, while the remaining windows are recessed sashes under flat gauged arches. The wings have string courses on the first and second floors and are topped with a crowning parapet that has coping. There are cast iron balconies for pairs of windows on the first and second floors of the wings, as well as cast iron curved balconettes for the top floor windows. The area railings are made of wrought iron and include lamp standards and urn finials. Inside, the house retains a geometric open well staircase that is top-lit, featuring a delicate iron balustrade along with mouldings and plasterwork from the 1790s.
