Description
44 and 46 Lexington Street are terraced houses built around 1719, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. The buildings are constructed of brown brick, with No 44 featuring a cement-faced, stuccoed ground floor and slate roofs. They rise four storeys and have parapets with coping; No 44 retains an intact basement. The ground floors have mid-19th century shop fronts with corniced fascias, but they also preserve original architraved doorcases to the left, which have cornices supported by consoles. The upper floors feature nearly flush framed sash windows without glazing bars. No 44 has cast iron area railings with acorn finials. Inside, No 44 was largely remodeled around 1830-1840, showcasing reeded mouldings, square balusters on the staircase, and a single panel on the front door, although the passage partition likely remains original. In contrast, No 46 retains original features, including panelling in the passage and on the first floor, as well as slender turned balusters on the cut string staircase.
