Description
Balham Station, part of London Regional Transport, was built in 1926 by Charles Holden. It features twin corner buildings made of Portland stone, both of which have a similar appearance. The station includes two street entrances, projecting canopies, and large tri-partite windows with glazed roundel signs. The windows are adorned with tapering mullions and spherical capitals. There are stairs leading down to the sub-surface ticket hall, along with modern escalators. The sub-surface platforms and passages still showcase much of the original tiling and many original signs. This station is one of several on the Northern Line extension designed by Holden.
