Description
Tooting Broadway Station, completed in 1926 by Charles Holden, is a London Underground station that includes an above-ground building as well as sub-surface platforms and passages. The station features a Portland stone corner building with a curved facade and is designed without decorative elements. At street level, there are three entrances with a continuous moulded lintel and a projecting canopy. Above these entrances is a tripartite window that includes a glazed roundel sign and two tapering mullions topped with spherical capitals. Inside, the ticket hall has tiled walls and a trabeated ceiling, along with modern escalators. The sub-surface platforms and passages still showcase their original tiled decoration and signs. This station is one of several designed by Holden for the Northern Line extension.
