Description

The Gun Public House is a 19th-century facade applied to an earlier building. The street facade is constructed of painted brick with rusticated quoins. A heavy stuccoed eaves cornice with a panelled frieze runs below the roofline, topped by a signboard. The roof is not visible. The main facade is two storeys wide, and a one-storey extension projects to the north, extending the width of two windows. The first-floor windows are sash windows with segmental arched heads and keystones, featuring large sills with cast iron window box guards. The ground floor facade is panelled wood, incorporating some tiling and painted brickwork. A side elevation displays painted weatherboarding to the upper storey. The river elevation, two storeys and four bays wide, has weatherboarding to the upper storey of the southern bay; the remaining bays are channelled rendering. The interior contains a spiral staircase with plank panelling, and an upper room features a coved roof and moulding. Some panelling has been removed. It is believed the public house has an association with Lord Nelson.
