Description
The Bath House and Repton Boxing Club was built in 1899. It is an example of the early buildings constructed under Queen Victoria's Baths and Washhouses Acts. The building is of red brick with white stone banding to the upper floor, while the ground floor is rendered and painted. It has a coped brick parapet and a slate roof.
The structure is two storeys with seven windows; these are sash windows with architrave surrounds, with the ground floor windows having pediments, and all windows retaining glazing bars. A double arched doorway features keystones, and a three-light window with mullions and transom sits above it. The entablature incorporates a cornice and architrave that runs across the entire facade. Decorative moulding with small figures holding name panels is found on the frieze above each door.
A single-storey western extension has a two-light window and a semi-circular window. A louvred cupola sits atop the building. The eastern facade features a decorative shield with a date panel in the gable end. A two-storey oriel bay is supported by a doorway, with a round window above the door and a two-light window above that; a modillion cornice is present. Massive brackets and a carved cornice featuring carved angels are visible at the return. Stone banding is also present.
The former Cheshire Street Baths form a group with the Robert Montefiore School (Annexe) on Ramsey Street.
