Description
Nos 236 to 256 on Old Ford Road, dating from the mid to late 19th century, are constructed of stock brick and feature a bracketed stucco eaves cornice and blocking course. The building has bands at the first and second floor sills and stands three storeys tall, with two windows on each floor, each framed by moulded stucco architraves. The first-floor windows have bracketed labels. The ground floor features three-light windows, and there are paired doors with stucco surrounds and engaged pilasters topped with composite capitals. Notably, No 236 has a rusticated ground floor and a simple door. This group of buildings, which includes the Victoria Veneer Mills, Nos 274 to 302, The Crown Hotel, and The Royal Cricketers Public House, forms a cohesive architectural ensemble with the Lodge at Crown Gate West in Victoria Park.
