Description
Numbers 45-68 form a terrace of 24 houses built between 1824 and 1832. The houses are constructed from multicoloured stock brick with slate mansard roofs, dormers to most properties, although Numbers 46, 47 & 57-66 have lower-pitched slate roofs, some also with dormers. Each house is three storeys high with an attic and basement, and presents two bays, with three openings on the ground floor. The ground floor is rusticated, with brick bands simulating voussoirs over segmental arches to the openings. Nos 45-50, 54-59 & 63-68 feature a stucco cornice and blocking course. The doors include panelled pilasters, cornice heads, and fanlights – the fanlight to Number 47 is particularly decorative. An entrance on the return side of Number 68 has been blocked up. The sash windows have glazing bars; those at the first floor have stucco architraves, a frieze, and a cornice, while those at the second floor have stucco architraves. A first-floor sill band is present. Nos 51-53 & 60-62 are similar in appearance but differ with a brick cornice and parapet, square-headed doors with bracketed hoods, and decorative oblong fanlights over cornice heads. Gauged flat brick arches are used above the first and second-floor sash windows, with the first-floor windows recessed in a round arch. The interior has not been inspected. Cast-iron spearhead area railings are a subsidiary feature. The listed buildings within Trinity Church Square form a group, with Numbers 45-68 also forming a group with Numbers 22 & 25-47 (odd) Trinity Street.
