Description

Numbers 1-9 Glengall Terrace is a terrace of nine houses built around 1845, likely designed by the Brighton architect Amon Henry Wilds. The houses are constructed of stucco with a low-pitched slate roof and overhanging eaves. Each house has two storeys and a rusticated semi-basement, with two bays per house, the entrance bay being narrower and slightly recessed. Prominent giant fluted Ionic pilasters rise through the ground and first floors, flanking the main bay of each house and supporting segmental arches above the first-floor windows. Steps lead up to square Ionic porches, featuring a deep entablature and corresponding pilasters flanking the door. The windows are sash windows; those in the main bay have segmental heads, while those above the porches are round-headed, set within shallow round-arched recesses. A string course runs above the basement. The interior was not inspected. Decorative cast-iron railings are present on the porches.
