Description
This is a gas standard that was adapted for electric light, located on Canal Grove in Southwark. It dates from the late 19th century and was modified for electric use in the early 20th century. The structure is made of cast iron and another metal, featuring a cylindrical shape. It has a fluted socle and a tapering shaft that culminates in a bell, which originally supported the gas light. The extension above the shaft and the curved arm were added to increase height during the conversion to electric light, adding intrinsic value to the piece. Additionally, it includes a cylindrical compartment for a fuse and timer, along with a shallow reflector. This gas standard is part of a group with the buildings numbered 2 to 9 Canal Grove.
