Description

Brandram's Wharf is a warehouse built around 1870 to 1880, which has been restored and converted into flats. There is a 20th-century rebuild to the west and a late 20th-century new internal structure set back from the street elevation, which now acts as a screen. The building is constructed of stock brick with red brick dressings, and there are recent extensions to the roof behind the parapet.

The exterior features four storeys and eight bays. Both the street and river fronts have channelled red brick quoin pilasters, with windows and hatches set in full-height round-arched recesses that include keystones. On the river front, there are a pair of stone fluted console stops that terminate the entablature above the eastern pilaster strip, which does not appear on the presumed later addition to the west. The third-floor windows have round-headed arches, while those on the lower floors of the eastern half have segmental arches and keystones. Hatches, now converted into balconies, and other windows feature concrete lintels. Above the third floor, there is a rendered frieze, now pierced with small windows, a brick dentil cornice, and a parapet with coping.

The street front has a similar treatment for the windows and hatches, many of which now have concrete lintels. The ground floor features wider openings with white and grey brick bull-nosed reveals. There is a continuous gauged red-brick archivolt and impost band above the third-floor arches, along with a red-brick dentil cornice and parapet above. The east return is blank, while the west return has been significantly altered in the late 20th century. The interior has not been inspected.
