Description

A complex of mill buildings and warehousing dating from the mid-19th century, with a later addition to the east, now restored and converted into flats. The west range originally comprised a single-storey section, of which only the river front remains, and is adjoined to the east by a later 19th-century block. The west range has five bays featuring a central, gauged brick, round-headed wharf portal flanked by similarly arched windows. A brick triglyph frieze band sits below a cornice and Portland stone coping. To the east is a six-storey block with five bays, showcasing twin, stepped gables with coping to the street front. The ground-floor windows are set in segmental-headed recesses with a stone band above, from which giant segmental-arched recesses rise through the upper floors, containing windows and what were originally hatch ranks, now adapted as windows and balconies. A brick cornice runs above. A detached, tall, octagonal chimney stack with a Portland stone cornice cap stands at the north-west corner. A later 19th-century block of seven storeys and six bays is positioned to the east, with parapet coping. The ground floor to the street has two segmental-headed entranceways, with window treatment mirrored from the west section across all floors. The hatch rank and some other openings feature grey brick bull-nosed reveals, and there is an engineering brick plinth. The interior reportedly retains timber floors supported on cast-iron columns.
