Description
Hope Sufferance Wharf is a grain warehouse and workshop, which has been converted into flats. It dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century. The building is constructed of yellow stock brick and features a pitched pantiled roof, which has been largely renewed and includes dormers, with gable ends facing the street. The warehouse and workshop are located on opposite sides of a yard. The warehouse range on the east side is three storeys high, including an attic, and has three bays facing the street with small camber-arched windows. The workshop range on the west side has a smaller gabled front with one bay facing the street. Inside, the structure has timber construction, with at least one post made from a reused ship's timber, which is part of a mast, representing an early survival of the warehouse.
