Description

A pair of semi-detached houses dating from the early 19th century, located in Peckham Rye, Southwark. The houses are built of amber brick with stucco dressings, and have low-pitched roofs hidden behind stucco parapets. Each house is three storeys high with a basement; the basement of number 152 has a 20th-century extension, while the basement of number 154 has rusticated stucco. Each house originally had three bays, but number 152 has a later three-storey, one-bay extension, and number 154 has a two-storey extension. Steps with wrought-iron handrails lead to entrances in slightly recessed outer bays. Number 152 features a stucco Ionic porch with fluted pilasters flanking a 20th-century door, which has a cornice head and plain fanlight. Number 154 has a segmental-headed doorway flanked by timber, fluted Ionic half-columns, with a moulded cornice head and radial fanlight to the door. Sash windows have flat, gauged-brick arches, with number 154's windows featuring glazing bars. The ground-floor and first-floor windows are set within shallow, recessed round-headed arches with stucco bands at the spring. A plaque reading “Prospect Place” is located on the second floor. The interiors have not been inspected. Numbers 152 to 166 (even) form a group.
