Description
No. 177 on Borough High Street is a house that has been converted into offices. It dates from the late 17th century but has a 20th-century facade and internal alterations. The building is constructed of brown brick with a rendered ground floor and features a slate mansard roof with flat-roofed dormers. It stands four storeys tall with an attic and is now perceived as a two-bay house, sharing a facade with No. 175, which is not included in this listing. The ground floor has a symmetrical office entrance, while No. 177 originally had only one bay. The upper storeys have sash windows with glazing bars, topped by almost flat gauged-brick arches. Inside, the ground floor has been mostly reconfigured, but the original staircase remains in place, located in the middle of the house between the front and rear rooms. The staircase features a closed string, square newels, and spiral turned balusters on vases, though the handrail has been replaced. There are no surviving panelled rooms.
