Description

This building is a warehouse block located to the east of Leathermarket Yard, specifically Units 13-16, and dates from the late 19th century. It is constructed of stock and red brick in Flemish bond, with some double headers and stone dressings. The roof is obscured by a brick parapet. The warehouse has a rectangular plan divided into four sections by internal fire walls, with each section consisting of four structural bays. This design results in a west elevation featuring a total of 16 windows, including hoist bays, and a stone plat band forming the plinth.

The exterior is four storeys high, with a flat-arched entrance located at the left corner beneath a pedimented aedicule, and a round-arched entrance at the south corner. The elevation is organized around paired, segmental-arched hoist bays, which retain their original doors and platforms, along with authentic hoist cranes and window glazing. Each pair of hoist bays is flanked by small round-arched windows with keystones. The building features plain storey bands, with red brick insets highlighting the sill and springing bands, while the arches of the windows are constructed in contrasting brick. The end sections of the building project slightly from the central pair.

The rear elevation, facing east, is simpler, built in Flemish bond without stone dressings, and features a 12-window range articulated into four groups of three. The plinth and storey bands are also highlighted in brick. Inside, the warehouse has wooden floor beams supported by cast-iron columns that are shaped like Greek crosses in section. The imposing mass of the block complements the rear elevation of the original Leathermarket on Weston Street and contributes significantly to the distinctive industrial landscape of the area.
