Description

Mary Sheridan House, part of a terrace of three houses, is an early 18th-century building with a 19th-century extension. It features a mix of yellow and red brick, stucco bands, and a slate mansard roof with dormers behind a brick parapet. The house has three storeys, an attic, and a sunk basement, with four bays. The right-hand bay is slightly recessed and contains a door and a first-floor window in a segmental-headed recess. The timber doorcase is similar to those of Nos. 11 and 13, featuring a pulvinated frieze and a cornice supported by console brackets. The six-panelled door is set back in panelled jambs, topped with a cornice head and an overlight. The sash windows, which have glazing bars on all floors, are set under gauged flat brick arches; the windows in the right-hand bay are revealed, while the others are in flush boxed frames. The interior has not been inspected. The property also includes cast-iron area railings with urn and spearhead finials, dated 1852. Originally, this house was the residence of the apothecary for old St Thomas's Hospital. Together with Nos. 11 and 13, and Nos. 17 and 19 (not included), it now serves as administrative offices for Guy's Hospital.
