House, has been used as hotel. 1791, outer wings probably early C19. Attributed to M Searles. Yellow brick with stucco dressings; cornice and blocking course. EXTERIOR: centre block 3 storeys, 3 bays, side wings 2 taller storeys and basement, 1 bay each. Projecting entrance loggia along ground-floor of centre block, with curved steps up either side; lead canopy supported by 4 pairs of Roman Doric columns with triglyph frieze and mutule cornice. 4 corresponding pairs of pilasters on rear porch wall, with long French doors between each pair. Large, round-arched ground-floor openings to wings, each with 2 pairs of full-length casements with cornice head, that to left with cast-iron guard with feather pattern. Flat, gauged-brick arches to 1st- and 2nd-floor sash windows with glazing bars in centre block, stucco band at 2nd floor. Outer wings have tripartite sash windows with glazing bars under gauged brick, segmental arches. INTERIOR: original staircase has delicate iron balusters, some with anthemion pattern. INTERIOR: not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: wrought-iron railings to porch and steps. Known as Durlstone around the turn of the century and later became the Durlstone Manor Hotel for a time.
