Description
The Old Grammar School, built between 1841 and 1842 by Sir Charles Barry, is a college building that has been converted into accommodation. It is constructed of stucco and features a steeply pitched slate roof behind a parapet. The building has a rectangular plan with gable ends and three gables facing the street. It is a single storey high, with the east elevation consisting of three bays that are flanked by tall, Tudor-style chimneys. There is a door on the north elevation that has a pointed, moulded arch, with a coat of arms displayed in a recessed panel above it. The main windows are square-headed, featuring mullioned and transomed casements set in plain reveals. A continuous moulding runs along the parapet and around the gables, and there are decorative rainwater heads. The interior has not been inspected. Additionally, there are iron railings with decorative standards flanking the gate at the south end of the building. The Old Grammar School is part of a group with Dulwich Old College and its entrance gates and piers on College Road.
