GV II

Wharf building, now part of London Bridge Hospital. 1860s, a rebuilding after the fire of 1861. Yellow brick with stock brick and rendered dressings. Main monumental river elevation: 7 storeys, 11 bays. (Altered) rendered ground level of 2 storeys with tall segmental-arched openings between pilasters which support heavy bases to giant order of brick pilasters rising to deep rendered entablature with pedimental blocking course, the frieze inscribed with the name of the building. The segmental-headed windows and hatch ranks (now fenestrated) are symmetrically disposed and recessed between the pilasters. Plainer south elevation set on slight concave curve has 6 bays articulated by giant brick pilasters supporting rendered entablature which is returned to projecting full height wings (right wing rebuilt and projecting slightly further). INTERIOR: not inspected. Building now connected by glazed walkway to Nos 17-25 (Odd) Tooley Street (qv).
