Description
Denmark House is an office building constructed in 1908 by SD Adshead for the Bennet Steamship Company. It is made of brick and artificial stone, featuring a parapeted roof. The building stands five storeys tall, with a one-window range facing Tooley Street and a three-window range on the triangular plaza side. The entrance is located at the party wall and is adorned with an elaborate cartouche. The ground floor has squat stone pilasters supporting plate-glass windows. The upper-floor windows are paired sashes, with those on the third floor featuring shallow balconies enclosed by metal railings and floating cornices. Stylized swags are positioned on either side of each window pair. The top storey includes panels in a contrasting colour and pedimented dormers. Above the cornice on the long return side, there is an elaborate carved plaque topped with a steamship and supported by a pair of putti. The interior has not been inspected.
