Description

This is an early to mid-19th century terrace house, likely built between 1840 and 1859, forming part of a terrace of three houses in Antrim. The terrace first appears on an Ordnance Survey map of 1857 and lies within the Town Parks townland. The building is situated centrally within its terrace, facing directly onto the street and with its rear elevation close to the river.

The two-storey house has two bays at ground floor level but only one bay on the first floor. The east elevation has a Bangor blue slate roof laid in regular courses, with one brick chimney incorporating three red pots. A cast iron gutter runs along the roofline. The walls are smooth cement rendered, lined and blocked, incorporating a plain plinth and narrow vertical stops at each end. A ground floor window is a timber sliding sash with a vertically hung 1 over 1 pane, and the first-floor window is a vertically hung 3 over 6 pane, both without horns and featuring projecting cills. The Gothic arched doorway is framed by a moulded painted stone surround with sunken Gothic panels, a moulded cornice and base, and a panelled and moulded Gothic arch incorporating an arched fanlight with Gothic pattern glazing bars. The rear elevation features a single-storey projection that cantilevers over the river. The main block of the rear elevation is roofed with slate, although the gutter and downpipe appear to be PVC. The walling here is rendered in a wet dash style. A single-storey, lean-to projection extends across most of the ground floor, also roofed with slate. First floor windows are rectangular timber single-pane, appearing to be top-hung casements. A rectangular timber fixed light with a top-hung vent is situated on the ground floor of the main rear wall, alongside two rectangular timber top-hung windows within the lean-to projection. The building was formerly and currently used as a house within a terrace, and is privately owned. It was delisted on 23rd December 2005.
