Description

Numbers 13-35, a terrace of 12 houses, were built between 1849 and 1852 by architects Garland and Christopher. The houses are constructed from yellow stock brick and feature stucco banded rustication on the ground floor, along with stucco dressings. They have slate roofs, some of which include dormers behind a stucco parapet with a cornice. The terrace is mostly two storeys high, except for No. 31, which has three storeys, and most houses are two bays wide. Nos. 13 and 29 are double fronted, each with a rusticated stucco pilaster at either end that rises to the cornice. There are steps leading up to panelled doors with original fittings and oblong overlights, all set within Classical doorcases that have pilasters and a plain entablature with a cornice. The ground-floor sash windows, which have margin lights, feature keystones that touch the cornice, while the first-floor sash windows with glazing bars are framed by square-headed stucco architraves. No. 31 has a splayed return with a vermiculated keystone set into an elliptical-arched carriageway that includes double doors. The interior has not been inspected but is expected to be of interest. The terrace also includes subsidiary features such as wrought-iron area railings and some window boxes, with No. 31 featuring decorative iron guards on the first and second-floor windows.
