Description
The Education Offices, formerly West Ham Town Hall, is a monumental stone Italianate building constructed in 1867-1868 and enlarged in 1886, designed by Giles Angell. The building features three storeys and is eleven windows wide. The ground floor is rusticated with square-headed windows, while the first floor has round-headed windows flanked by Corinthian pilasters. A balustraded parapet crowns the structure, and there is a two-storeyed projecting columned portico with three bays. The top floor is set back and includes a cornice and parapet. On the right side, there is a tall tower topped with a cupola covered in fishscale slates, and on the left, a curved corner leads to a return elevation facing West Ham Lane. Stone figures are positioned on the parapet at both the first and second floor levels. The interior has not been seen.
