Description
West Ham Court House is a court house built in 1884 by Lewis Angell. It is constructed of yellow brick with some Portland stone and stands three storeys tall. The building features six windows arranged in five bays, with the second and fourth bays slightly projecting. The ground floor has rusticated brickwork and quoins, with semi-circular heads to the entrance doorways and recessed windows. The projecting bays have flat-headed tripartite windows with enriched keystones. A Portland stone string course and cornice create a cill band at the first floor, which displays the Royal Arms in each projecting bay. The first floor windows are all circular headed with keystones, while the second floor has single segmental headed windows. A continuous bracketed stone cornice and blocking course adorn the parapet, which breaks forward over the projecting bays. To the left, there is a single recessed bay, and the entrance gates are flanked by brick piers topped with wrought iron lanterns.
