Description

Lydia House is a late 18th or early 19th century building, one of a pair with Sherwell House on Dartmouth Hill. It was constructed in a style associated with Michael Searles. The building is stuccoed and has three storeys, an attic, and a basement, with a two-storey and basement South wing. It features a pedimented central block of two windows, and a half-pedimented South wing with two windows. The roof is slated with dentil cornices and pediments. A shared oval window is located in the centre pediment, and there are blank windows on the axis. The reveals are plain, and the replaced sash windows have glazing bars. A shallow, three-window canted bay is present at the ground floor centre, with a cornice and balustraded parapet. The main front faces Heath, but the entrance is on the return in Dartmouth Grove. Here, a two-storey, one-window pedimented entrance extension features a six-panel door under a flat hood on brackets, topped with a tall fanlight with glazing bars.
