Description

This is a row of eight mid-19th century terraced houses, numbers 1 to 8, located on Church Terrace. The houses are arranged in pairs, each being two and a half storeys high with a basement, and featuring two windows per house. They are constructed of multicoloured stock brick with stuccoed frontages. The roofs are moderately pitched and hipped, with three prominent brick chimney stacks. Deep eaves are present with long, curved brackets extending down to the cill band of the top floor, although these are missing from number 8.

The windows are mostly sash windows with glazing bars. Those on the ground floor have moulded architraves and bracketed cills, and one ground floor window has a Venetian design set within a tall, round-arched recess. There are eight steps leading to a four-panel double door with a rectangular fanlight, set within a moulded architrave and a doorcase featuring sunk panel pilasters, a console bracketed cornice, and a pediment. Number 6 has a raised dormer window breaking through the eaves. All houses except number 4 have roofs that slope down to allow light to the upper windows, and number 8 has had a right bay added with a round bow on the return.

Numbers 1 to 8, along with numbers 11 to 16, form a group.
