Description
This building comprises numbers 7 and 9 Lee Terrace, originally a house, later used as a school after 1918. It was constructed by the prominent civil engineer William Webster in an Italianate style, replacing a building dating to 1826 designed by George Ledwell Taylor. Originally named Wyberton House, the property features a stone front with polished granite decorative elements, while the remaining sides are brick. The slate roof is hidden behind a parapet. The building is slightly irregular in form, standing three storeys high with seven windows across its facade. It has a panelled parapet, and a cornice composed of alternating paterae and brackets. The end windows are set back, and the corners feature quoins. Windows have cambered architraves with keystones and stops, while those on the first floor are accented by cornices and brackets. A window above the porch is topped with a pediment supported by brackets. The porch itself has granite columns, a fretted balcony, and four steps. Three-light canted bay windows are present on either side, with the right-hand window having its glass removed for use as a chapel.
