Description
The properties at 19 to 31 Tanners Hill, London SE8, form a group of buildings dating to the late 17th century, built in a curving layout along a bend in the old street. Each property has two storeys and an attic, with a single window fronting the street. They have steeply pitched roofs of differing shapes; most have been renewed with machine tiles, with the exception of number 21, which retains a rounded mansard roof covered in old pantiles. The frontages are rendered, except for number 19, which has been rebuilt in brick. Each property has a square dormer, mostly with 19th-century casement windows. The first floors feature early 19th-century sash windows with glazing bars, although numbers 19 and 23 have modern casements. The ground floors have mostly modern shop fronts, but numbers 21 and 27 retain early to mid-19th-century shop fronts that have been altered. Numbers 21 and 25 are distinguished by their old brick cornices.
