Description

6 Grote's Buildings is an early to mid-18th century building of three storeys and a sunken basement, originally comprising six windows, with the outer two windows blank on the upper floors. It was likely originally designed as a pair of buildings, as indicated by the wide central space. The roof is double-span and covered in slate. The building is constructed of multicoloured stock brick with a stone coped parapet. The sash windows have glazing bars within flush, moulded frames and stone sills, and are set within gauged, flat brick arches. An entrance on the east side leads to a six-panel door within a later wood porch, preceded by five steps with a cast iron rail. A long section at the rear, probably dating to the early 19th century, extends to the east and features an open arcaded basement. The rear elevation of the western part exhibits cambered window arches and a gentle mansard roof.
