Description
A row of six houses, numbers 44 to 48, built in the mid-19th century as part of Hanover Gardens. Each house is two storeys high with an attic and basement, and originally had two windows, although number 48 is three windows wide. The houses are constructed of stock brick, with painted brick basements. A stuccoed band runs along the first-floor sill, and the brickwork above is also stuccoed, with a decorative frieze, cornice, and blocking course. The roofs are slated mansard roofs with dormers. The windows are mostly sash windows, originally with margin lights, although some have been replaced with windows containing glazing bars, all set within gauged brick arches, with segmental arches on the ground floor. Four steps, featuring a wrought iron handrail, lead up to the front door: a door consisting of two long panels, framed within a stuccoed entablature. Cast iron spearhead area railings are present. Number 48 has lost its cornice.
