Description
39 and 40 Hanover Gardens is a pair of mid-19th century houses located on the east side of Hanover Gardens, SE11. Each house has two storeys, an attic, and a basement, with two windows on the front. They are constructed of stock brick, featuring painted basements that extend to a ground floor band. The first floor includes a stuccoed cill band, frieze, cornice, and blocking course. The mansard roof is slated and has dormer windows. The sash windows, mostly with margin lights, are set under gauged brick arches, with segmental arches on the ground floor. Access to the doors, which have two long panels and are framed by a stuccoed entablature surround, is via four steps with a wrought iron handrail. The properties are also enclosed by cast iron spearhead area railings.
