Description
Oval House is a tall mid-19th century villa that stands three storeys high with a basement and features three windows across its facade. The building is constructed of stucco with incised lines and has a fairly low pitched hipped slate roof. It has sash windows, some of which include margin lights, set in chamfered reveals. The ground floor windows, including those in the projecting canted bays on the sides, are casements with transoms, and there is decorative glazing on the left return. Access to the building is via five steps with pierced side walls leading to a projecting porch, which has a parapet that rises to a central peak and a Tudor arched entrance. Notably, this house is the birthplace of Field Marshal Lord Montgomery.
