Description

This is a row of terraced houses at 21-25 Cleaver Square, dating from the mid-19th century and designed by William Rogers. The group value of the building lies in its contribution to the character of the square. Each house is three storeys high with one window, and has a recessed basement. The facades are constructed from stock brick with stucco detailing, including quoins to the projecting end houses and pilasters elsewhere. A prominent entablature features modillion and dentil cornices and a blocking course. Number 25 has a later addition of an entrance bay on its left side. The basement and ground floor are stuccoed and feature banded rustication with vermiculate quoins on the projecting houses. The windows are sash windows with margin lights, set within moulded architraves; numbers 21 and 25 have altered window surrounds. The ground floor features console bracketed dentil cornices and bracketed cills. The entrance doors are six-panel doors with rectangular fanlights, set well back behind modified entablature surrounds.
