Description

This is an irregular terrace of twenty houses, numbered 1 to 20, built in the late 18th or early 19th century on Cleaver Square. The houses are each three storeys high with a basement level, and each has two windows facing the square. They are constructed of stock brick with a stone-coped parapet. The terrace has undergone significant rebuilding, and the windows vary in height and sill level. Most windows have gauged brick arches and contain sash windows with glazing bars; some of these windows have been replaced. The ground floor windows are round-headed, and most of the upper floor windows feature radial glazing patterns. The front doors are six-panel affairs, with some original doors remaining, each set within a round-arched recess and topped with a cornice and a radial fanlight. The numbers of steps leading to the front doors vary, although most include wrought iron handrails. Numbers 16 and 18 have had modillion cornices and parapets added, while number 19 has stuccoed lintels above its doorway. The buildings are included on the list primarily for their contribution to the group value of Cleaver Square.
