Description

This is a mid-19th century terrace of six houses, numbered 49 to 54, at Hanover Gardens. The terrace has a convex curved end. Each house is two storeys high with an attic and basement, and generally has two windows, though number 49 has three. The houses are built of stock brick with stucco bands at the ground and first floor sill levels, and a frieze, cornice, and blocking course – though the blocking course is missing from numbers 49 to 52. Numbers 49 and 50 have mansard roofs, and all the houses have dormers, most of which have been altered. The windows are sash windows, mostly with margin lights, set under gauged brick arches that are segmental on the ground floor. There are four steps with a wrought iron handrail leading up to the doors, which consist of two long panels within a stuccoed entablature surround. The front of the houses is defined by cast iron spearhead area railings. The buildings are included on the list for their group value.
