Description
No 8 Melbury Road is a detached house built in 1875 by architect R Norman Shaw. It is designed in the Queen Anne style and features a picturesque composition with two main storeys plus a roof storey. The house is constructed of red brick with a tiled roof and some stucco detailing.
The façade consists of three main bays, with a central entrance that has a pediment, and a lower wing to the left that contains two narrow bays. The ground floor has long flush-framed sash windows, while the upper storey is distinguished by three tall oriel windows that utilize Lascelles patent reinforced concrete window framing, including in the mullions, and are fitted with leaded lights. The outer two oriel windows are situated under gables, and the house is topped with tall chimneys. The return elevations are also noteworthy.
The interior has not been inspected. This house was built for Marcus Stone, the painter.
