Description
This is a balanced terrace of houses situated on Sydney Street in SW3, built in the early 19th century. The houses are constructed of brick with a stucco finish to the ground floor and a prominent cornice line. The ground floor features channelling. The terrace is three storeys high, with two windows on each house front. Each house has a square-headed doorway. Upper windows are set within gauged flat brick arches, and mostly retain their original glazing bars. The first floor has French casements. Individual balconies are present on the first floor of each house. The centre and end houses, specifically numbers 7, 9, 11, 33-41, 63, 65 and 67, are distinguished by pilaster strips that run vertically through the upper storeys. The centre and end houses also feature arched windows on the ground floor. A group of three houses (35, 37, and 39) have an additional attic storey, with a pediment above number 37. Numbers 9 and 11, and also numbers 63 and 65, have been raised to five storeys. Unfortunate alterations have been made to the ground floor of number 61. The terrace is accompanied by area railings and forms one of two symmetrical terraces, paired with houses numbered 18-68.
