Description
The Mausoleum of Eustace Meredyth Martin, located in Kensal Green Cemetery, is a large Gothic structure made of grey granite ashlar and features a steep-pitched gabled roof. The entrance consists of a pointed arch with a deep-hollowed surround, which includes two slender red granite shafts. The doors are solid granite slabs adorned with intricate strapwork hinges. Inscribed around the outer edge of the arch is the phrase: ‘+ Family Tomb of Eustace Meredyth Martin +’. Above the gable, there is a coat of arms belonging to Martin, topped with a foliated cross, along with a text from John 6:37: ‘Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out’. Plain crosses are positioned at the tops of both gable ends. The side walls feature quatrefoil ventilation openings, and the roof is covered with stone slabs that have ballflower ornamentation under the eaves and triangular lucarnes above. Both the side and end walls are supported by small buttresses that have sunken lancet panels.
