Description

The monument to Annabelle, Dowager Viscountess Glentworth, located in Kensal Green Cemetery, is a tall Celtic cross set on a two-stage base. It is made of red sandstone, which has become quite worn over time. The front face of the shaft features a design that resembles a ladder, with six rectangular hollows intended for inscriptions, although no text is currently visible. Each face of the cross-head displays five round bosses adorned with knotwork decoration. The four arms of the cross are decorated with bas-relief carvings: the forward face depicts the Evangelists, while the reverse side features stylised trees. Originally, the encircling ring was inscribed with the opening words of the Sanctus - ‘Holy Holy Holy Lord God of Sabaoth’ – but this text is now illegible.
