Description

St James’ House is a dwelling, rebuilt in the 19th century as a double-fronted house and later in the 19th century converted into two residences. The property is four storeys high, with a basement and dormers. It has three windows with a projecting central bay. The roof is slate, with a mansard form. The building features a yellow stock brick cornice, with a main modillion cornice at the third floor level. Gauged flat brick arches frame the recessed sash windows of three lights. The windows on the second floor have stucco aprons, while the first-floor flanking windows are recessed behind an Ionic arcade. A prostyle portico, with a dentil cornice and a blocking course bearing the inscription “St James House” in a panel, provides the main entrance.
