Description
The tomb of John Cam Hobhouse, Baron Broughton de Gyfford, is located in Kensal Green Cemetery and dates from 1869. It was crafted by Lander and Co., masons, using Carrara marble. The design features a large eared sarcophagus with a ridged roof, supported by four squat colonettes, and it stands on a stepped base made of York stone. Hobhouse was a close friend of Lord Byron in his youth and went on to become a writer, Whig Member of Parliament, and minister. The tomb is inscribed with the words, "He was eminent alike in political and literary life and after a public career of success and honour found unbroken happiness in domestic repose."
