Description
The former public library, now known as Bank Melli Iran, was built in 1852 and is designed in the Elizabethan style. This two-storey building features red brick with stone dressings and is five windows wide, with the centre and ends projecting. The windows are three-light stone mullioned and transomed, with diamond-paned casements. The ground floor includes an enriched four-centred arched porch, and above it is a canted bay adorned with a heraldic frieze. An octagonal clock turret rises above the roof, topped with an ogival dome. The outer bays have projecting bay windows at the ground floor, complete with battlements. The building is further enhanced by elaborate stone-coped Dutch gables that include Gothic statue niches. The roof is covered with slates, and there is an openwork parapet.
