Description

The tomb of Elizabeth Johnstone, located in the churchyard of St Mary Abbott, was built in 1784 and designed by Sir John Soane. It is made of stone and takes the form of a table tomb resembling a classical sarcophagus. The tomb features rounded ends adorned with friezes of curved fluted strips. The side panels bear illegible inscriptions, and it has a plain slab top. The tomb was funded by Lord Bellamont, and Elizabeth Johnstone, who lived with her parents in Brompton, may have been his mistress.
