Description

The parish church of St Mary Abbot is a Victorian structure, rebuilt between 1869 and 1872 by Sir Gilbert Scott. It is constructed of rubblestone with ashlar dressings, and is designed in the geometrical style. The church includes an aisled nave, a lower chancel, and an eastern tower surmounted by a broach spire with double corner pinnacles and lucarnes. A vaulted entrance cloister was added between 1889 and 1893 by Micklethwaite and Somers Clarke. The building contains monuments and a pulpit from a former church, as well as a good Victorian font. The listing also includes the railings to the churchyard.
