Description
No 1 Kensington Church Street is a terraced house built in the early to mid 18th century, with a refacing that occurred around the late 19th century. The building is constructed of brick and features a slate double pitched roof with a parapet, standing three storeys tall. The ground floor has a late 19th-century stucco door surround and a late 20th-century plate glass shop front. The windows are square-headed with slightly recessed sashes and glazing bars in the upper lights. Above the second floor, there is a brick cornice, and square-headed dormers are set in moulded surrounds. To the left, there is a stuccoed return with a balcony dating from around 1800, while the rear facade is also stuccoed and includes segmental-headed flush framed windows. Inside, the house retains original features such as a turned baluster staircase above the first floor with carved tread ends, a corner fireplace, and rich egg and dart cornicing exposed in the rear first-floor room.
